Traditional Dance Club
Allows youth to learn from staff and other mentors about traditional dance, along with listening to music, also learning Powwow etiquette, and going to Powwows firsthand. This is a way for members to express themselves and grow with culture.
Youth Drum Group
An activity in which young boys and girls are introduced to a variety of traditional and contemporary powwow songs, accompanying dances, and the stories/teachings behind them. Under the instruction of the experienced adult singers, the youth participants often build confidence, a strong sense of belonging and community.
Language Table
Learning basic Ojibwemowin through games, interactions, and interactive activities, this includes mentors, language trainees, language keepers to help assist youth grow with language.
Baaga’adowewin (Lacrosse)
A traditional healing game that allows youth to do physical activity with friends and community. This activity has shown to help youth cope with stress.
Traditional Camps & Activities
Members get chances to learn about Treaty Rights and traditional camps such as sugar bushing, spearing, netting, gill netting, harvesting of plants and berries in the area, manoomin (wild rice), and much more. Members are also given a chance to go to Traditional Camps so they can learn hands on and from knowledge keepers. We believe these activities are just as important to our youth as any of our other programs.
