Character & Leadership

Ikwezensag Giikendaasowag (SMART Girls)

A small-group health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls in three age groups. Through dynamic sessions, highly participatory activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities with adult women, Club girls explore their own and societal attitudes and values as they build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care and developing positive relationships with peers and adults.

Eni-Wiidookaazojig (One’s that are Beginning to Help)

Promotes and teaches responsibility in Club boys ages 8-17. This program represents a targeted effort to engage young men in discussions activities that reinforce positive behavior.

Member of the Month

A recognition program that focuses on acknowledging and making Club Members aware of their own leadership abilities.

OJJDP Mentoring Program

Mentoring through the OJJDP Program matches young people with positive adult role models that meet with them at the Club for a minimum of one session each week. While building positive relationships, mentors work together with Club members to guide them in achieving personal goals in areas that apply to them such as:
  • social competence
  • self-esteem
  • parent/caregiver relationships
  • academics and school attendance
  • substance use

Junior Tribal Council/Keystone Club

This unique leadership development experience provides opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18. Youth participate both in and out of the Club in activities in three focus areas:
  • Academic success
  • Career preparation
  • Community service

Torch Club

A leadership and service club for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas:
  • Service to Club and community
  • Education
  • Health and fitness
  • Social recreation
